Item 190. Board Meeting Minutes May 6, 2003 Anne Perry (mooncat) Tue, May 13, 2003 (14:19). 81 lines, 8 responses. Attending Board Members: Aruba, Mooncat, Mary, Gelinas, Other (arrived 7:52 pm) Attending Non-Board Members: Steve, Bhelliom, Remmers, Kip 1. No Gavel, No quorum, Informal Meeting Discussion item on what procedure should be if a board member has missed three meetings. According to the bylaws the board may take action, but no action steps are detailed. Decision made to e-mail the board member in question as well as start an item in coop to gather the opinions of Grex users. 2. Treasurer s Report: In the red this month. Took in $`44 in dues, $143 in donations. Spent $1969, $1504.95 of that amount was for the new hardware. The fundraiser so far has collected $877; the fund previously had $1024 donated. Currently we have 80 members, 78 are paid up. There were no new members in April. Aruba moved $1,000 from the savings account to checking to pay for the hardware. Had a paying member account locked due to sending spam mail. A refund of his dues for the duration he was paid up was sent to him. 3. Staff: Definitely need UPS batteries. Steve called the maker, UPS may be ill or the batteries need to be replaced (due to certain lights that have gone on). Steve called Interstate Batteries; they have a location in Ann Arbor. As soon as Steve gets the data he needs he will contact Mark and replace the batteries- states that we want them very soon. Steve met Denny Helm- who is connected to the landlords) and gave him a key to the Pumpkin (so they could get the door open when they replaced the hall carpeting). Steve will get more copies of the key made and give them to Aruba. One of the modems may have been flaky, Steve killed it and then revived it- he will keep an eye on it. 4. New Computer Update: $1,504, everything paid for. At the time of the meeting everything had arrived except for the disks and OS. Delay on disks caused by problems with NewEgg's address policy will not send to a PO Box and wouldn t accept any other address than the one listed for the credit card (which for us is a PO Box)- so Aruba had to send a check and delivery waited for the monies to clear. The OS version was only released as of May and the supplier got backlogged. If we are lucky they sent it out to us by the end of last week- and it should arrive in 7-10 days or so. Conversation turned briefly to the portioning of the disks and Steve added that he would like to see us purchase a fourth SCSI disk. At this point we have only ordered 1 SCSI and 1 IDE. Determination made to order two more SCSI disks, likely from Leeron. 5. Fundraiser update: $887 raised, Aruba expects another $50 to be sent in by a donor. 6. Auction Update: at the time of the meeting 11 items had been donated, 3 more items were added after an e-mail was sent to prior donors. The Auction will start very soon. 7. New Staff Positions: Steve will send e-mail to staff about new people so that a list of names can be assembled before the next board meeting for the board s approval. Comments added by Kip regarding coop- it is stated to be the place for the guidance of Grex, and yet it comes across as being led by a very insular group. More discussion to follow in an item created for this purpose. For staff- we would like them to come up with a breakdown of what they do in tiers- so that you can see what dangers there are based on the tier- correlating to what access will be given to new staff members. 9. New Business: None 10: Next Meeting: Monday June 2nd, 7:30 pm. 11: Gavel at 9:21 pm. 8 responses total. ---------- (190) #1 Mark A. Conger (aruba) Tue, May 13, 2003 (14:47). 6 lines. Thanks Anne - nice minutes. We took in $144 in dues. There was some miscommunication between STeve and me about how many disks to order - in the end we decided to have 3 SCSI disks and 1 IDE disk. I ordered the batteries and STeve picked them up at a store in Lansing last Friday. Haven't heard if they've been installed yet. ---------- (190) #2 Greg Fleming (flem) Tue, May 13, 2003 (15:16). 5 lines. Sorry I wasn't able to attend. I had intended to, but discovered that I had a prior commitment that I could not break. If the absentee board referred to above is me (possible, I know I missed the March meeting, though I thought I'd been to the one before that), rest assured that I'm still paying attention, at least. :) ---------- (190) #3 Mary Remmers (mary) Tue, May 13, 2003 (16:35). 7 lines. When Eric (other) arrived we then had quorum. I don't think we were very far into the agenda at that point, but I don't remember exactly what was being discussed. But this meeting counted as an official meeting. Too, the next meeting will need to start at 7:45, on May 2nd, not 7:30 as per usual. Another group has the kid's room until 7:30. ---------- (190) #4 Mary Remmers (mary) Tue, May 13, 2003 (16:35). 1 line. Nice minutes, Anne. ---------- (190) #5 Joe (gelinas) Tue, May 13, 2003 (20:29). 2 lines. That's 7:45, JUNE 2, at Zingerman's, right? A Monday, according to my calendar. ---------- (190) #6 Mary Remmers (mary) Tue, May 13, 2003 (20:34). 1 line. Right. Sorry. ---------- (190) #7 Eric R Bassey (other) Mon, May 26, 2003 (12:14). 1 line. How about an MOTD announcement, as we close in on the date? ---------- (190) #8 Mary Remmers (mary) Mon, May 26, 2003 (14:58). 4 lines. Yep. I've been putting 'em in about three or four days before the meetings. But if someone else thinks about it first or wants it in earlier they should feel free to do the deed.
