Item 209. October Board Meeting. Megan Heberlein (eeyore) Tue, Nov 7, 2000 (01:31). 43 lines, 13 responses. Well, I apologize for getting thse out so late, but I've been loosing large chunks of time in the past couple of months. I'm not sure yet where those chunks of time go to, but I'll let you know when I do. NOTES: Well, to start off, Arlo *REALLY* didn't want to be at this meeting....when he and Valerie walked into the room, he started crying. She took him out for a little while, and then once he was fine, brought him back in. Instant tears. Repeted a couple of times, and yup, it was something about the room. We think that it had to do with the fact that he really didn't want to sit through a board meeting. Can't say I blame him. ;) Meeting commenced at 7:10, and was attended by Drew, Eric, Jan, STeve, Meg, Greg and John. Mary was there for a brief time also. Chair report: Eric recieved am invitation to the Summerfest Corporate Luncheon. Treasurer report: We had a couple of chargebacks in September, and because of the creditcard problems, we took in a bit less then we paid out. Eric Motioned "It is moved that we disconnect our service with our Credit Card Company now, and investigate new alternatives." Remmers seconded, and everybody voted in favor. PayPal is being looked into as an option. Pblicity: Nothing Tech Committee: STeve has gotten 2 more discs formatted, and we need another chain on the SCSI. The UPS can feed Grex for 4.5 minutes, and STeve thinks that it will need a new battery in the next 18-24 months. STeve is looking into Tape Drives again, prices and such, and will be posting information online (I thought in Co-op?) by October 26. Remmers motioned "We would vote online to authorize the purchase of the new tape drive". Eric seconded, and all agreed. Our ISDN lines are gone, and we've dropped 2 phone lines. The recent vandels have been really stupid. Next Meeting: November 20, 2000. Same Bat-time, same Bat-Place. New stuff: Jan got info from Michael Steinberg (which he already posted) Board Nomination time is here! Jan is at term limit, and Remmers & Steve are up for re-election. Meeting let out at 8:06. 13 responses total. ---------- (209) #1 Marcus Watts (mdw) Tue, Nov 7, 2000 (01:48). 2 lines. Apparently, I snuck in late to some other board meeting in an alternate universe. ---------- (209) #2 Jan Wolter (janc) Wed, Nov 8, 2000 (10:10). 1 line. Did the September minutes ever get posted? ---------- (209) #3 John H. Remmers (remmers) Thu, Nov 9, 2000 (05:58). 1 line. I don't believe so. ---------- (209) #4 Megan Heberlein (eeyore) Thu, Nov 9, 2000 (10:15). 9 lines. Sorry, Marcus....I forgot to write it into my notes. ADDENDUM TO MINUTES: At some point, fairly early in the meeting but the secretary forgets the exact time, Marcus did wander intot he meeting also. As for September, since I left just a day or two after the meeting for a bizarre trip, I'm still trying to figure out what I might have done with the notes from it. ---------- (209) #5 Scott Helmke (scott) Thu, Nov 9, 2000 (10:23). 1 line. Has Grex officially given up on the current credit card system? ---------- (209) #6 Megan Heberlein (eeyore) Thu, Nov 9, 2000 (10:31). 1 line. I thought I posted that in these minutes? ---------- (209) #7 Carson! (carson) Thu, Nov 9, 2000 (10:36). 2 lines. (you did. Grex voted to discontinue the present arrangement and pursue other options, as I understood it.) ---------- (209) #8 Scott Helmke (scott) Thu, Nov 9, 2000 (11:34). 1 line. Then the motd needs to be updated. ---------- (209) #9 John H. Remmers (remmers) Thu, Nov 9, 2000 (12:38). 3 lines. I think the motd is ok, since we *do* plan to do credit card processing at some point in the future (but not with the same company). ---------- (209) #10 Mark A. Conger (aruba) Thu, Nov 9, 2000 (12:56). 1 line. I amended the motd message to reference this item as well as the other one. ---------- (209) #11 Richard J. Wallner (richard) Mon, Nov 13, 2000 (23:33). 4 lines. wasnt giving up on the currentcredit card system a bit of a rash move? sometimes you have to be patient with these companies, what doesnt work out short term can work out better longterm. Surely grex could havekept the current service until a better one presented itself ---------- (209) #12 Joseph L Gelinas (gelinas) Mon, Nov 13, 2000 (23:37). 3 lines. From what I've read, no, we couldn't: we were being charged fees for fraudulent transactions, transactions we could not prevent. Some businesses can afford these losses; we couldn't. ---------- (209) #13 Megan Heberlein (eeyore) Tue, Nov 14, 2000 (01:58). 2 lines. We've lost more money than we've taken in, and the credit card company isn't willing to work with us to get it working for us. Why keep them?
