Item 45. Minutes from the 9/9/92 Board of Directors Meeting Valerie Mates (popcorn) Thu, Sep 10, 1992 (22:57). 63 lines, 27 responses. Here are the minutes to the Grex Board of Directors Meeting held Wednesday September 9, 1992, at Zingerman's at 7:30 pm. I'm going to list conclusions, not full text of all discussions. Present: aa8ij, arabella, ceor, chelsea, danr, davel, gregor, mcnally, mju, morel, mta, popcorn, power, remmers, and steve. (Do folks prefer for me to call everyone by their login ID or by their real name when I write these minutes? I'm tending toward login IDs lately 'cause there are lots of daves and dans and mkies and so on, but only one of each login ID on the system.) Meeting opened with the pounding of the gavel, by remmers. Treasurer's report, danr: details are in another item here. Basically, we were about $20 in the hole at the beginning of the meeting. Various people handed checks to Dan at the end of the meeting, so we're back in the black again. We'll need to raise another $162 by the end of September. Should we be more pushy about memberships? Grex policy is to give everyone access to pretty much all of the system and try to keep the system interesting enough that people will *want* to pay for it, rather than forcing people to pay for membership to get access. We stand by this policy. 9600 baud modem coming soon. News will be arriving on it, late at night. We're looking to place less emphasis on collecting half-working spare disks that sit around collecting dust and more emphasis on putting the disks we have on line. Gotta do more backups. There are instructions at CE. We'll try to send an experienced backer-upper and a backup neophyte over at the same time, so more people will know how to do backups. A level 0 dump takes under 2 hours. JCC sale in early October. Are we in? Probably - let's ask for donations! Ideas: put public domain programs on disks and sell those for about $3 per disk. McNally's excellent idea: put together dial-a-Grex disks for different systems, disks with PD comm programs and scripts to automatically log you in to Grex. Volunteers: gregor for the mac, popcorn for the PC, power for the apple ii, remmers for the Pet (but I think he was joking). We could make basic and deluxe Grex starter disks and sell basic disks for, say, $3 a disk and deluxe disks for $10 and include a month's membership and a Grex sticker. Mju has spare 360K floppies he can donate. 501(c)3 status: Looks like a lot of work and a $375 (or $150?) fee. Is it worth it? Maybe not right now. Any volunteers to see the application through are most welcome to do so. Aa8ij will ask his cousin, an accountant, if she's able to do this. We got a 1992 annual report form from the state. It's due 10/1/92. Remmers will fill it out and send it in. Next meeting is Wednesday 10/7/92. JCC sale is 10/4. Remmers banged the gavel to close the meeting. Lots of people handed money to danr. Publicity committee meeting minutes: Mta made up some excellent flyers. This is a good time to advertise Grex because there's a ton of students freshly arrived in town. We'll try to go postering over the next few days.
