We are a cooperative
Grocery Business
We are a cooperative grocery business owned by thousands of household
members who shop at the store. Started in 1968 as a food buying club,
we serve the Cleveland area with natural foods and other quality
products while supporting good health and vitality in the community.
Co-ops are not a new idea. One of the earliest was organized by Benjamin
Franklin in 1752 and still exists today. Nearly 60 million people are
members of 40,000 U.S. cooperatives, each organized to serve the consumewr
by providing quality products and personal service.
The Food Co-op Features:
* Natural foods/products free of any artificial ingredients, such as
harmful preservatives, colorings and flavorings
* A full line of natural groceries
* Food and product education
* Whole foods - those with a minimum of processing and refining
* Organic food and produce - those grown without chemical fertilizers
or pesticides
* Basics in bulk - buy as much or as little as you need
* Food for special dietary needs - low fat, wheat free, unsweetened,
milk-free, low salt and others
Member Benefits
* Eligibility to vote on issues and elect board members
* Ownership of the business
* Natural foods at the shelf price (non members pay a 5% surcharge)
* Member prices for cooking classes and Co-op programs
* Nutrition and product information
* An opportunity to become involved in activities ranging from nutrition
education to environmental issues
Additional Discounts
* Serving on the Board of Directors or one of its committees
* Persons with disabilities or 65 years or older (reduced buying deposit
requirement)
* Working/volunteering (8 hours per month) for a 10% discount
It's easy to join
Just Ask at the information service desk for an application. Present the
completed form with your fee and your membership benefits begin
immediately.
Membership rates
Members pay a one-time refundable equity (per adult) of $20.00 plus a
$10.00 membership fee.
