I *think* this is the minutes from the October Board of Director's Meetings. (I found some undated notes that someone else (Mark Conger?) had started and I had finished. Neither of us had thought to date the notes. Since they don't seem to duplicate anything I'd already entered, I suspect they're the missing notes. (I'm sure Mary will tell me if it's otherwise.) In Attendance: Ajax (Rob Argy), Janc (Jan Wolter), Steve (?), IrvingP, Jiffer, Llanarth, Zolo(?), Ladde(?), Jared, Valerie (Valerie Mates), Dang, Scott (Scott Helmke), Aruba (Mark Conger), Drew, Davel (Dave Lovelace), Tsty (TS Taylor), mta (Misti Tucker) TECHNICAL REPORT: Reset Password file (total defrag) The /etc. directory is now "new and improved". Scott did a backup. Grex is now running on fewer cards than ever before. A power supply problem is making GREX less and less able to handle memory. We need to fix one of the power supplies or get one of our backup power supplies back from Greg Cronau. We need new telnet software Re the 670: This is the best solution to the crashing problem. It now boots! The software has been reinstalled. Jan Wolter and Steve WEiss are in the process of installing patches. The Grex-specific software needs to be examined for compatibility, upgraded and recompiled as necessary, and then installed. We ought to buy more memory. The 670 has 64 meg, but has space for 128 meg. We also have an expansion board to bring the total up to 256 Meg. The rest of the prepaprations aren't really hard, just painstaking and careful. With enough people, we can get up pretty quickly. We'll end up with 2 gigs of memory. ISDN: ISDN is now working. We still need to change the IP address. This weekend we can redo the numbering. Trivial aside: A new program called !Macarena has been installed. MH has been reconfigured. Sree has built a new .cf list creator. Mark has offered to create a bunch of new software. PUBLICITY: An Observer ad has been scheduled for August 1998. GREX made a TV appearance. Bumpersticker creation is underway. GREX had an ad in the Once Upon a Mattress handout. GREX will have a splash page and a series of informational pages on Ann Arbor's Community Television Network interactive channel sometime shortly after the first of the year. The splash page is nearly ready and the pages are ready. Motion: "The GREX Board of Directors moves to reimburse Valerie Mates $20 for expenses she incurred for GREX advertising." Scott: moved Dan: seconded 6-0-1. The motion passed with valerie abstaining. AUCTION: All items are paid for but 16 items remain undelivered. Another auction will open on November 1, and will close December first with money due in on dec 15 to allow donors to have their items in time for Christmas giving. Coyoye and Aruba will run the auction. ETHERNET HUB: The staff reports that in order to support our existing equipment, GREX needs a new ethernet hub. The cost is expected to be between $60 and $100. MOTION: The GREX Board of directors authorizes up to $150 for the purchase of an ethernet hub. Staff will work out in mail who's going to order it. Scott: moved Mark: seconded 6-0-0: Motion passed unanimously. BOARD ELECTION: Outgoing board members are: Dan G., Scott, Mark, and Misti No board member is at the sunset period. NEW BUSINESS: Thanks to Jiffer and NT for providing treats for this board meeting. GREX needs a good, commercial quality SCSI disk enclosure. Discussion will moved to GREX and taken up at another meeting. When GREX was down, Valerie found a bunch of fascinating GREX links. She has created a web page and will make it publicly readable soon. GREX T-shirts are to be ordered this week. TREASURERS ADDENDUM: Ameritech still lists "Small Business Services" on our bill. Long distance calls are recorded on our bill for 9/12 How much will it cost to fix or replace the power supply? This month we pay installment 9 of the Centrex installation charges, so out last payment is due in january. The board normally meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month, although the last two months we've met on the 3rd Wednesday because of holidays. So the next board meeting will be on Wednesday January 28, most likely at 7:30pm at ITI. Sometimes the board changes its meeting schedule either when a new academic term starts or when new people are added to the board, to accomodate people's changing schedules.
