Browsing the Web from Grex

Grex provides lynx, a popular web browser that provides text-based access to the World Wide Web.

To run lynx, you must first dial into Grex or ssh or telnet into Grex. After connecting, login to your Grex account.

To start lynx, just type lynx at a shell prompt, or !lynx a menu or bbs prompt. You may specify a starting URL by adding it to the end of the line. You may change to lynx as your default shell, so that it always runs when you log in.

While in lynx, there are many single-letter commands that you can type. These are all explained on a separate page.

Use of lynx on Grex is free. Lynx will access all normal web and gopher sites, though without any pictures. However, you will not be able to access ftp or telnet sites (those whose URL's start with "ftp:" or "telnet:" instead of "http:") if you are not a member. That is because Grex limits access to those protocols to members.
